Dan Khan, Technical Director

Dan is responsible for developing and operating 1791 Diamonds Ltd's internet site and back office systems.

Dan's passion for writing software began in the early 80s, creating text-based adventures and sprite-based games for his friends. This naturally influenced Dan's education through the University of Sheffield culminating in a first class Masters degree in Software Engineering, The Mappin Medal for Best Software Engineering Graduate, The Hollowbrook prize for Best Software Engineering Thesis, and a nomination for Graduate of the Year at the UK's Royal Academy of Engineering.

At age 25 Dan was one of the core technical architects of Europe's largest online community supporting over 2 million users and serving over 40 million emails per month. Subsequent to this, Dan continued to work closely with business partner Richard Prout as technical director in a number of other businesses, enabling those ventures online and bringing them to life.

After moving to New Zealand, Dan founded NetProfess Limited. Through this Auckland-based online strategy and web development business, Dan designed and developed a number of successful online content-management and e-commerce products. Alongside his normal business activities he has worked with New Zealand's thriving web community:

• He was the first interactive media designer granted professional membership of the Designer's Institute of New Zealand.
• He is now a member of DINZ professional review panel.
• He participates in a local developer community group of over 200 members which he helped found.
• He has presented workshops for New Zealand tertiary education institutes and is a member of NatColl's Curriculum Advisory Group.

When not working hard at 1791 or on his latest hobby-coding project, Dan can usually be found enjoying Auckland's great outdoor climate or cooking up fabulous culinary creations for friends and family.
